How To Have Dreams At Will And Control Them

Lucid dreaming allows people to take control of their dreams, prevent nightmares, and redirect dream events to something more pleasant and relaxed. This can help people in their everyday lives, the study authors explain. Controlling dreams can help to heal trauma and control unhealthy behavior.

Lucidity first appeared in the press in the 1970s, when people thought it was a great way to end nightmares and solve dreams. It turns out that it takes a lot more effort than what happens with other forms of dream control. In one study, students were randomly selected for real problems whose ability to solve outweighed motivation, and a week and a half after they dreamed the problem, a quarter of those who dreamed of solving the problem were higher than they would be without the clarity technique.

Dr. Daniel Erlacher, a sleep researcher and lecturer in sports science at the University of Bern who participated in two of the studies listed above, told us that when talking to lucid dreamers who have several lucid dreams a week, this figure drops to about one percent. The most striking difference between people, says Dr Barrett, is that the majority of people who remember their dreams the most each night increase their chances of clear dreaming by using certain techniques. The biggest studies to date on clear dreams have identified the best techniques to help people take control of their dreams.

People who decide to change their nightmares and solve problems through clear-sighted dreaming must find a difficult way there, not because it is impossible, but because there is much hard work and much less chance of success along the way.

New research from the University of Adelaide has shown that combining techniques you use before falling asleep can significantly increase your chances of having a clear dream. The study concluded that certain combinations of techniques increase people's chances of having lucid dreams as long as the dreamer is aware of what they are dreaming about, how it happens and how they can control the experience. For a simple explanation of the meaning and purpose of dreams it is helpful to understand the basics of dreams and the possible effects of nightmares as well as the steps you can take to fall asleep and have a sweet dream.

Before you fall asleep, rehearse the dream in your head and imagine that you become aware that you are dreaming. You will feel like you are participating in the dream while your body is asleep. Over time, it can be helpful to think about and write down the most recent dreams you remember, and to note down any clues that you have dreamed.

One study suggests that techniques used to trigger lucid dreams carry potential long-term risks including a higher risk of sleep problems, depression and dissociation. Researchers believe that cognitive skills that allow lucid dreamers to recognize and control their dreams could be linked to some kind of problem-solving. While we try to understand why we dream, the content of our dreams and how they become clear in our sleep offer a window into parts of our mind to which we in our waking lives have no access.

Some studies have attempted to communicate with lucid dreamers by using stimuli such as light, shock or sound to enter people's dreams. Other approaches include a device that emits external stimuli to the person during REM sleep. The aim is to send the person into the sleep phase of rapid eye movement (REM) associated with dreaming.

In the mnemonic induction lucid dream mild, the participant sets an alarm clock to wake them every five hours and recites that the next time they dream, they must remember their dream before going to sleep again. The people who practice mild mnemonics confirm that they intend to realize their dream and immediately fall asleep again.

The person should wake up after sleeping a while, stay awake for a certain time, and then go back to sleep. After examining what has become of the habit, they should take a reality check on the dream and realize that they have been dreaming.
